Nailing brand colours in Midjourney (a follow-up post)

Very niche post warning – This is my second post for Midjourney geeks. As with the first one, please ignore if this is not you.

The colour problem

You may have read my last post on issues and a solution for getting accurate colours in Midjourney (here and here).

The good news is I’ve discovered a new, much better way to nail colour accuracy – and it’s super efficient when you’re up and running.

The bad news is you need to do a little leg-work to begin.

MidJourney Style Reference Seeds

The technique uses Style Reference Seeds (–sref ####) in Midjourney which you add to the end of your prompt.

The relevant page on the Midjourney user manual which explains this is here. Specifically this is the relevant guidance:

When you use a style reference seed you basically get a consistent of colours (as shown above).

Finding your style reference seed

Now the really bad news: there are literally hundreds of millions of unique style reference seeds, which you would need to ‘mine’ to find the right one.

Fortunately, Nick St. Pierre – a Midjourney guru – has set up a page on discord with examples of the first several thousand style reference seeds.

The link to his channel is: https://discord.gg/FwAnrnK6yD

You simply need to scroll through his feed of different Seed Reference Styles, and find the style ref that shows colours which match your brand.

This is probably (hopefully) a 1 – 2hr investment of time – well worth it for the benefit.

If you’re looking to replicate KPMG’s brand, the good news is I’ve already identified the pefect style ref. It is –sref 1009. [@KPMG-ers, you can pay me back in kind in: Negronis, G&Ts, Martinis or Whisky-Sours]

This is the sample I found on Nick St Pierre’s discord for –sref 1009:

And these are the KPMG brand colours:

Pretty close right?….

Using the style reference seed in Midjourney

How you use style references in Midjourney: Just add the Style Ref to the end of your prompt. I.e. <prompt> followed by –sref 1009.

For example:

Abstract painting --sref 1009

You can adjust the intensity using the style weight (–sw) parameter.

The style weight can be varied from zero to 1,000. Increase the style weight if you want more intensity.

What if i’ve found a good style reference seed, but it has some colours i don’t need?

ust use the “no” parameter – e.g. ‘–no yellow’ at the end of the prompt.

For example:

Abstract painting --no yellow, orange --sref 1009

Can you pretty please show me some examples…

….of this working, before I spend hours hunting the right ‘style reference seed’?

Sure – please see below for tonnes of examples, including the prompts i used.
